14K gold vermeil, explained
The pendant is 14K gold vermeil: sterling silver with a layer of 14K gold at least 2.5 microns thick. The 18-inch Italian box chain is 14K gold-plated sterling silver.
Vermeil is a surface layer, so it softens with years of wear and friction. Keep it dry, put it on after lotion and perfume, and it will hold its color for a long time.
